Who can take part in the study?
​You may be eligible if you:
· Attain services at United Women of East Africa (UWEAST)
· Are 18+ years old
· Have high blood pressure or have a family history and are concerned about blood pressure now or in the future
· Are generally healthy
· Live in San Diego
What will participants do?
​Participants will visit UWEAST for all study activities. This includes a group interview, six nutrition and cooking sessions, and data collection. We will ask participants questions and take measurements, including blood pressure. Participating is voluntary. Participants can choose to no longer take part at any time.
Where will the study take place?
All activities will be at United Women of East Africa (UWEAST) found at 6523 University Ave San Diego, CA 92115.
How long will the study last?
This study will last up to six months.
What are the benefits of taking part?
At the sessions, participants will learn information about healthy eating. They will practice cooking skills and taste various foods. Participants will receive up to $250 for their time and effort.
Are there any costs to participants for this study?
There are no costs for being a part of the study.
Is it safe to take part?
This study has been reviewed and approved by the UC San Diego Human Research Protections Program. Participants will be given a full description of what will happen in the study. They will be told details about any risks and benefits that come with being in the study. We will also answer any questions. You can ask more about the study on our “Contact” page.
